Austrian companies showcase innovative green technology during 2010 Winter Games
Alpine Regions demonstrate the best of world-leading energy efficiency and alternative energy technologies at the “Austrian Passive House” in Whistler, BC
(Whistler, BC) February 15, 2010 - Representatives from Austria’s Tirol region welcomed more than 100 Canadian researchers, and green energy, construction and design businesses at a reception and commercial tradeshow highlighting renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies at the Austrian Nation House during the 2010 Winter Games in the Austrian Passivehouse in Whistler, BC. The event was part of a knowledge transfer activity within ENERBUILD, a project within the European Alpine Space Program focused on strengthening SMEs in the building s
Specifically in the field of energy efficient buildings in alpine areas the region of Tirol was able to show off its competence and to facilitate knowledge transfer to Canadian enterprises. “Today we are exchanging the grand ideas and connecting the right researchers and business people to continue our successful innovation and development of better, greener energies, housing design and construction” says Harald Gohm, Chief Executive Officer of the Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung (Tyrolean Future Foundation).
As a typical alpine area in the West of Austria, Tirol’s small land base supports a bustling population of 700,000 residents - and it boasts over 60 innovative companies and research institutions in the fields of renewable energy production and energy efficient housing technologies. It is home to world-class innovators such as Leitwind (wind turbines - who are responsible for the turbine on Grouse Mountain in West Vancouver, BC), GE Jenbacher (biogas engines), Optiwin (energy-efficient windows) and Baumstark (a consortium of master wood craftsmen). A broad variety of qualified companies from alpine areas as well as specific projects from ENERBUILD partners were highlighted at an industry reception and technology showcase event held in Austria House today. This unique venue is the Austrian Passive House, an ultra-low energy building design constructed with scientific support of the University Innsbruck, and an example of the some of the technologies coming out of the Tirol region.
