In Hamburg, the loading onto the ship and brings the container with the Austria-house in about three weeks after to Montreal. On road the Passivhaus finally arrive to Whistler in the Canadian province of British Columbia in late August.

Under www.oesterreichhaus.at you will find interesting information on the future building and press documents and pictures to download.

Five companies draw this story of success:

The Austria-house for the Olympic Winter Games was build by the Austrian Passivehouse Group (APG). For the APG the building was realised from three companies: from Vorarlberger: Sohm Timber Engineering, Drexel and Weiss, the engineering office Erich Reiner and the two companies Tirolean Optiwin advertising space and two together.

The engineering office Erich Reiner is the project manager and in the same time Expert in the ENERBUILD project!

Situated in the heart of Whistler
The APG-Austria-house project is two-timber in solid wood with DD-wood dowel. The upper floor is a floating structure. The usable area of the building comprises 260 square meters. Where is it in the centre of Whistler Village, just three minutes' walk from the medal ceremony square.

With the mounting of the Austria-house timber engineering Sohm begins in early September. The building in Whistle will be established with the team of Sohm an in cooperation with the Canadian company Durfeld Log Construction.

The official opening will take place on 10 February 2010 instead.

Model for the North American market

The construction of the Austria-house for the Olympic Games should be starting the energy efficient buildings initiative in North America. Finally, Europeans are on average much more efficient with energy than North Americans. "The consumption per capita per year in Europe with around 4,000 watts, in North America at about 11,000 watts," explained the project coordinator Erich Reiner. "The Austria House is a very good example of how to effectively deal with energy and the heating problem can be solved."
While in Austria just the 5.000ste Passive house becomes operational, in comparison the statistic shows just 50 houses throughout North America. "Thus we have in Europe and especially in Austria, an enormous know-how that should be used," says Reiner convinced. Currently the APG exported its technology to Canada. "In the long term but we want to produce there and willing to enter into joint ventures, "says the APG project coordinator.
During the Olympic Winter Games (February 12-28 2010) the house will be the house of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC), the Austrian Radio (ORF). After the games it subsequently used for the Paralympic Games (12-21 March 2010),

The Austrian house is the first house, which are not reduced after the termination of the games. It remains on the scene.

Passivhaus Forum in March 2010 in Whistler
In March 2010, the APG in Austria-house together with the Foreign-Austria (AWO) and the Canada Green Building Council from Vancouver, an Austrian-Canadian Business Forum and Personals Passivhaus symposium.
Subsequently the city of Whistler will use the building for cultural events.
